This is one of those odd foreclosure stories that will have a nice ending and possibly create a new career for Angela Logan, a Teaneck, NJ woman who is an actress and divorced mother of three. In a creative measure to save her house from foreclosure, Logan held a bake sale with her goal to bake and sell 100 homemade “mortgage apple cakes” at $40 each.
According to NorthJersey.com, she has received more than 500 orders, including one from Hong Kong.
After reading about Logan’s financial bind, the Hilton Hotel in Hasbrouck Heights invited her to bake in a corner of its kitchen. Logan spent 12 hours there Saturday, turning out more than 20 cakes using a commercial mixer and convection oven. The hotel is letting Logan use the kitchen at least through this weekend, when the first of three $2,559.94 payments to Bank of America — required as part of the modification of her mortgage — is due.
This is simply one of those feel-good stories about someone who was committed and driven enough to stave off foreclosure. Kudos to Hilton Hotel general manager Al Hamdi who was moved by her story and initially wanted to support her by buying her cakes. Instead, they opened up their kitchen for her to make her cakes.
Angela’s Web site motto is: “Fighting Foreclosure One Cake at a Time.” Love it!
